41st Red Lion Street Fair

Red Lion Street Fair 2017! Over 150 local businesses and vendors set up stands to entertain, inform and offer unique treasures. Crafts, foods and fun filled the streets of downtown. There were historical displays, hot rods, dance performances as well as balloon twisters, face painting clowns, and an all-day dunk tank. One of the best events of the year!

Slow Down for School Buses, Pedestrians

School bells will be ringing soon, as students prepare to head back to class in the coming weeks. Now is a good time to refresh our memories about how to share the road safely with school buses and other school transportation vehicles.

Pennsylvania law requires motorists stop at least 10 feet away from school buses when their red lights are flashing and their stop arm is extended. Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm is withdrawn. Do not proceed until all the children have reached a place of safety.

Penalties for failure to obey school bus safety laws can result in a $250 fine, five points on a driving record and a 60-day license suspension.

Parents are reminded to ensure that their children are at the bus stop early to avoid rushing. Students should stay where the bus driver can see them while boarding or exiting the bus.

2017 Agriculture Census
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) 2017 Census of Agriculture is right around the comer. The Census is used by producers, community leaders, Congress, policymakers, local government, and many others for developing farm policy and programs, shaping local government policy, programs and services and determining infrastructure funding.

Many of you have used USDA agricultural statistics over the years for one reason or another at either the national, state or county level. This key USDA service provides the facts about the most important industry in the Nation; for without agriculture, we don't eat!

I encourage all producers to complete their 2017 Census of Agriculture forms. They will be mailed out at the end of December 2017 and they are due back to the USDA in February 2018.

To assist in actively supporting this nationwide effort, the USDA has created a website that can be found at agcensus.usda.gov. Click on "2017 Partner Tools" along left hand side.
